Python CNC Automation
This project explores how Python-based automation and G-code workflows can be used as a practical, hands-on way to teach CNC and manufacturing concepts.

03What the project sets out to solve
The Problem
CNC and manufacturing concepts are often taught abstractly, disconnected from the code and workflows engineers actually work with, leaving a gap between theory and practical CNC operation.
Objectives
- Build Python tooling that generates and manages G-code workflows
- Connect CNC automation concepts directly to practical, hands-on exercises
- Use the resulting system as a learning tool for engineering and manufacturing education
- Analyse resulting machining data to reinforce theoretical concepts
How the work moved forward
Approach
Python scripts handle G-code generation and workflow automation, with the resulting data used to connect abstract CNC concepts to observable machine behaviour.
Development
Development has focused on the Python automation layer and the G-code workflows it produces and manages.
Testing
Workflows are being tested against CNC milling operations to confirm generated G-code behaves as expected.

Where the project stands now
This research and its supporting tooling are in active development.
What's Next
Planned work includes expanding the automation library and developing structured learning exercises built on top of it.
